Mindfulness and Qi Gong for Personal Stress Reduction and Team Effectiveness

If stress is not properly managed by an individual in an organization, it will eventually be transmitted to co-workers, customers, patients, and other stakeholders. So, it is in the best interest of any organization to acknowledge the existence of workplace stress and give employees tools for effectively managing and releasing it.
While there is no one way to reduce stress, many people have embraced the concept of “mindfulness” as a way to effectively process stress and counteract the negative emotions, harmful physical reactions, and destructive behaviors associated with it. One way to practice mindfulness is with Relaxed Breathing Techniques and the practice of Qi Gong. The practice of Qi Gong (pronounced CHEE-GONG) can be traced back to ancient China. Qi Gong is a gentle form of movement combined with focused breathing that helps an individual relax and enhances his/her overall well-being. It is often referred to as a mind-body exercise or mindful movement because it explores and enhances the connection between the mind, body, and spirit.
In this program participants will learn simple Relaxed Breathing Techniques and Qi Gong movements which can be performed either seated or standing and take as little as 8 minutes a day. They will practice the movements in class and receive detailed written instructions so that they may continue their practice at work and/or home.
Meet Victoria Wesseler:
Victoria Wesseler is a Certified Tai Chi Instructor and founder/ owner of Tai Chi Every Day, LLC (www.taichieveryday.com ). Victoria teaches Tai Chi and Qi Gong for the Community Health Network, My Father's Garden of Health, and Witham Health Services.
Prior to becoming a Tai Chi and Qi Gong instructor, Victoria was a business ethics and regulatory compliance consultant for several multi-national corporations including MICROSOFT Corporation, Hospital Corporation of America, GlaxoSmthiKline, Eli Lilly and Company, Kaiser Permanente, Caterpillar Inc., and Waste Management. She has received over 30 international awards, including several TELLYs, for excellence in video-based and on-line program design, written communications, and employee training. Victoria has an M.S., Summa cum Laude, in Organizational Behavior/ Industrial Psychology from Purdue University and holds the designation of SPHR: Senior Professional in Human Resources.
In her consulting work and as a senior human resources executive, Victoria saw firsthand the damage that unmitigated stress could do to an individual, a work team, and an organization. She believes that helping employees handle stress effectively and efficiently is not only good for the individual; it’s essential for the long term success and survival of the organization.
