Motivating with Games

Second Friday of the Month

3:30-4:30 PM

Co-Chairs: Linda Carney Wiles, MATD - linda.carneywiles@medxcelfm.com

Brandi Jerdi- Brandi.Jerde@medxcelfm.com

One key component of presentations is participant engagement.  Many people have difficulty paying attention in traditional settings, in both face-to-face and virtual environments.  The goal of any presentation is to inform; however, if your audience doesn’t pay attention, the message is lost.  This session will focus on methods to increase audience engagement.

There are two approaches to engaging your audience 1) convince them the information is needed to make their life easier, or 2) wake up their competitive spirit with a game.  The first choice is intrinsic in some people but can be a battle for many; the second connects with a much broader audience.

The workshop will:

  • Share some examples of the gaming approach in K-12 settings
  • Provide research findings for these examples efficacy in improving engagement and learning
  • Show how gaming can wors in adult and professional presentations
  • Tips for incorporating aspects of gaming in your presentations

Facilitated by Dr. George McDermott
