Career Coaching and Employer Connections (CCEC) is Ivy Tech’s newest offering in developing and connecting Indiana’s workforce. The CCEC model has now been implemented at all 19 Ivy Tech campuses statewide, and emphasizes comprehensive career readiness practices alongside academics through the duration of  the student experience. It is designed to empower each student with personal career assessment and exploration, comprehensive career coaching, work and learn experiences, and a professional toolkit that can be used throughout their lives. This preparation will help them meet career goals and obtain employment that matches their personal choices with the needs of the Indiana workforce. A consultative, solutions based philosophy is at the heart of the employer engagement piece of this model. Employers have been systematically infused in the process through engagement in workshops and other developmental programming, Work and Learn experiences, and efficient graduate hiring processes. The model extends beyond new talent acquisition into training and upskilling of incumbent workforce through both training and degree offerings. Through this model, Ivy Tech continues to improve on its mission to serve the people of our state with world-class education that empowers our students to achieve their career aspirations, and in turns transforms and enriches our economy.

Session Objectives:

  • Introduce the Ivy Tech Career Coaching and Employer Connections (CCEC) model.
  • Discuss CCEC career planning components, including assessment, exploration and coaching.
  • Discuss how the model infuses employer engagement in the career development process and talent acquisition.
  • Discuss the CCEC model approach to solutions-based training and upskilling for incumbent workforce needs.
  • Ask participants to discuss how this model might support their work.

About Sue:

Sue Ream is the Executive Director of the Career Coaching and Employer Connections department at Ivy Tech Richmond. Before joining Ivy Tech in November 2020, Sue held executive roles at a variety of organizations including the VP of Careers and Alumni at the University of Phoenix, Director of Strategy at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Director of Career Services at Arizona State University, VP of Career Services at Career Education Corporation, and in Career Services at IUPUI. Her focus and passion has always been around student success and connecting students to America’s workforce. Sue’s career has allowed her to live and travel all over the United States, but she is happy to be “back home to Indiana.”
