Top 10 Pick for Learning Ladders’ Best Books for Educators Summer 2021 A groundbreaking guide to improve teaching based on the latest research in neuroscience, from the bestselling author of A Mind for Numbers. Neuroscientists and cognitive scientists have made enormous strides in understanding the brain and how we learn, but little of that insight has filtered down to the way teachers teach. Uncommon Sense Teaching applies this research to the classroom for teachers, parents, and anyone interested in improving education. Topics include: • keeping students motivated and engaged, especially with online learning • helping students remember information long-term, so it isn't immediately forgotten after a test • how to teach inclusively in a diverse classroom where students have a wide range of abilities Drawing on research findings as well as the authors' combined decades of experience in the classroom, Uncommon Sense Teaching equips readers with the tools to enhance their teaching, whether they're seasoned professionals or parents trying to offer extra support for their children's education.

Join us on Friday, May 29th, for a session led by Kiana Butcher, Guiding Purpose Coaching & Consulting about the connection between emotional intelligence and transformational coaching. Often, the most impactful coaching moments happen beneath the surface of the conversation. This experience invites us to slow down, listen differently, and explore how emotional intelligence helps people feel seen before they are ever “solved”.
Kiana Butcher is the founder of Guiding Purpose Coaching & Consulting, where she guides leaders and women through meaningful growth rooted in values, purpose, and self-awareness. With 15+ years of leadership experience and training in social work, coaching, emotional intelligence, and change management, she brings both insight and heart to her work.
Kiana is deeply passionate about walking alongside women—especially mothers—as they navigate the complexity of caring for others while learning not to lose themselves. She creates spaces that invite reflection, clarity, and realignment, helping women reconnect with who they are beyond their roles and move forward with intention, compassion, and confidence.
You are Invited to Participate
in an ATD-CIC Special Event
As a talent development leader, you appreciate the value of well designed and engaging learning experiences. But what if the bigger opportunity is not adding more engagement inside the workshop, but designing engagement across the entire talent development value chain? In this 90-minute virtual PopUpThinkTank, we’ll explore a timely shift: from engagement as an instructional technique to engagement as a strategic value-creation practice. Together with Talent Development leaders from the Midwest Regional ATD community, we’ll examine how engagement can happen before, during, between, and after formal learning, with business leaders, managers, employees, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders. Our shared challenge: How might we move engagement beyond the learning event and use it to create value cross the full talent development roadmap? What is a PopUpThinkTank Event? This is not a webinar, panel, demo, or pitch. It is a facilitated, peer-to-peer working session around one shared question. There is no pressure to speak in front of the full group; the format is designed so people can contribute in ways that feel thoughtful, useful, and human. Participants will leave with meaningful connections, fresh visibility into how collective insight emerges, and the chance to contribute to something usable, a shared view of how engagement can become a more strategic practice for Talent Development. The missed opportunity may not be that our workshops need more engagement. The missed opportunity may be that our talent development process does. Join us to be seen, heard, and valued as we create something meaningful and practical together! REGISTER HERE Please Note: You will be directed to a dedicated PopUpThinkTank registration page hosted in partnership with ATD-CIC. There is no cost to participate, and guests are welcome. Because this is a virtual event, Zoom access information will be included in your confirmation email after registration. Facilitated By: Pete van Overwalle on behalf of ATD-CIC and PopUpThinkTank
